True Allspice Tree (pimenta dioica)

Spice up the garden with this True Allspice Tree. Leathery, wonderfully fragrant leaves can be used in cooking and the brewing of teas. Leaves grow large, up to 4 to 8 inches long are quite aromatic. An attractive gray colored trunk has bark that peels off in thin sheets. Very small white flowers develop into highly aromatic and flavorful, brownish berrylike drupe. It is these small unripe fruit that is collected, dried and ground for culinary use. A beautiful, slow growing tree that will grow well in a container on a patio.
