Sweetsop Sugarapple Tree (annona squamosa)

The Annona Squamosa is a shallow rooted tree that is highly accepting of varying soils and is drought tolerant. A nearly rounded fruit with a thick rind and a knobby reticulated exterior that separates when fully ripe to reveal a mass of glistening, creamy-white, sweet juicy segments, ripens around November and is typically baseball to softball size with a flavor reminiscent of sugary sweet custard. The pulp comes apart in segments each containing a small black seed that separates easily from the fruit. The trees begin to fruit at just one to two years of age, and they can easily be maintained at a height of eight to ten feet.
