New Zealand Parrots Beak Shrub (clianthus puniceus)

Striking highly unique crimson flowers reminiscent of a birds bill are a clear sign of why this plant is called the Parrots Beak. Dangling masses of stiff, thick, waxy blooms erupt around mid-summer amidst fern like leaves, almost as if screaming “Look At Me!” Parrots Beak is a medium sized bush growing to about 8 feet tall and wide. With a bit of a sprawling growth habit it’s great for training along a fence or wall. As if the ornamental qualities were not enough to make you want one, they attract hummingbird and butterflies to the garden as well. Yeah, we think it’s a really cool tree too…who wouldn’t!
