Natal Bottlebrush Shrub (greyia sutherlandii)

Showy reddish-orange cones of flowers displaying wavy oblong petals and long protruding stamens open in closely packed racemes at the tips of the branches, giving it the appearance of a bottle brush. The spectacular display of red flowers appears in spring and will persist thru the summer months, supplying the hummingbird in your area with ample nectar. Equally as unique is the pale pink wood of the tree which is harvested for the making of posts and household utensils. Due to its rather compact, small size it is a perfect plant for smaller urban gardens or courtyards and if planted in multiples makes a fantastic living fence.
